During the Second Week of Climate Commitment, Janos Pasztor,  United Nations Assistant Secretary General for Climate Change, visited Lima to participate in two events: “The role of non-governmental actors in the Lima-Paris climate agenda” and “The future we want: sustainable development objective and climate change.”

During the latter, he commented on the role of Sustainable Development Objectives, which agenda is vitally important to fight climate change. In this regard, he pointed out that success in the climate agenda will depend on success implementing sustainable development objectives, since they are directly related to the struggle against climate change.

“There are 17 Sustainable Development Objectives that have to do with food security, access to energy, cities and oceans, for example. These are areas where we will need to take action to reduce the current system’s model and to adapt to climate change,” stated the Assistant Secretary General during an interview.

Later on, he stressed that the Lima-Paris road will be a great opportunity to generate dialog among negotiators and also the public at large, thus generating actions at all levels.
