At the opening of the “Ambassadors Week” in France, the eighth Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, stated that the importance of the event is that it contributes significantly to promoting the interests of France to a sustainable development of the world, allowing to discuss on the search for global solutions to the global problems.

Likewise, he emphasized on the role that France has as the largest contributor to the regular budget of the United Nations and as the third contributor to the peacekeeping operations. “I speak for many, saying that France, through its initiatives, plays an exemplary role in the global efforts to fight the serious threat that climate change poses to our planet. I also would like to pay tribute to the leadership shown by Peru. We continue to make good progress since the climate conference held in Lima in December 2014,” he said.

With regard to the action on mitigation of climate change, the Secretary General said that it is expected that all countries and sectors of the society to be involved in the negotiations of the COP21, as they relate to the type of social transformation we want to achieve. “Climate change is included in the new framework as an independent objective, and it is fully integrated into all the sustainable development objectives; In fact, if urgent measures are not taken on climate change, we will not achieve sustainable development,” he said.
