What are the Climate Commitment Weeks?

Peru, at the international level, complying with its role as President of the COP20 and up to November 30 this year, aims at continuing the negotiations as country Party through the Independent Association of Latin America and the Caribbean (AILAC), participating of negotiation spaces on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), being co-President of the Green Climate Fund in 2015-2016 period, as well as promoting and mobilizing actions framed within the Lima-Paris Action Agenda (initiative of the Peruvian and French government through the Presidency of the COP20 and COP21), which involves joint actions and mobilization for mitigation and adaptation to increase Pre 21020 ambition, with non-government stakeholders. Among the subjects led by Peru in this Agenda are: Forest and resiliency (adaptation).

At the national level, within the framework of the sectoral “Environment in Action” initiative, led by the Ministry of the Environment, Peru Climate Commitment aims at integrating and articulating efforts, initiatives and actions related to the country’s vision on sustainable low-carbon development. Its actions are related to the implementation and development of instruments and tools for climate change adaptation and mitigation, as well as national and regional development strategies.

Thus, the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM), as part of these actions and aiming at promoting development and strengthening the domestic climate agenda, to walk in a participative, planned and organized manner the route towards the COP21 in Paris, is currently implementing the Climate Commitment Weeks.

MINAM has planned to organize 3 Climate weeks throughout 2015. During this year, the First Week of Climate Commitment (May 25 to 29) and the Second Week of Climate Commitment (August 24 to 28) have been successfully implemented. The third and last climate week of 2015 will be held from November 2 to 6.
