From December 1 to 12 2014, Lima will host the 20th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – COP20-CMP10, in which countries will participate via their respective diplomatic missions, accredited observer organizations and media.
Observer organizations are formed by inter-governmental organizations (IGO), non-governmental organizations (NGO), and organs and agencies of secretariats of the United Nations,. All of these are specialized agencies related to the UN which have completed the registration process and accreditation.
The secretariat of the UNFCCC provides specific criteria and rules to complete this process, which is crucial for the paeticipation of civil society in the official negotiations.
Key dates to consider in the registration and accreditation process for observer organizations are:
July 15-18 | Online application for side events and exhibits at COP20 |
End July/beginning August | Information note to IGOs and NGOs for COP20 and opening of the Online Registration System for nominations from admitted IGOs and NGOs |
August 31 | Deadline to apply for admission in time for COP 21/CMP 11, Paris, France |
Mid-September | Online Registration System deadline for nominations from admitted IGOs and NGOs |
Mid-September | Opening of the Online Registration System for confirmation of representatives from admitted IGOs and NGOs (and announcement of size of observer organizations delegations) |
November 27 | Online Registration System deadline for confirmation of IGO and NGO representatives for COP 20 |
