President Humala coordinates COP21 actions with Angela Merkel, François Hollande and Ban Ki Moon

Lima, August 25, 2015.- The President of Peru, Ollanta Humala, held today a pone dialogue with the German Chancellor , Angela Merkel; French President, François Hollande; and the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon; within the framework of the organization of the Climate Change Conference #COP21 to be held in Paris at the end of the year.

During this conversation, the leaders made vows for the negotiation process to result in a new binding global climate agreement, which will become a valid instrument in the long-term. In this task Peru closely collaborates since it holds the COP Presidency.

In this regard, President Humala expressed Peru’s confidence that an inclusive society addressing climate change and low carbon growth may be achieved.

The Heads of State and Government agreed on the necessity to send a clear message responding to the need of addressing climate change today. Moreover, they acknowledge the progress made on climate finance issues, with the Green Fund constitution as one of the important points.

The Ministry of the Environment, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, participated in a videoconference from Paris, where he is participating in the Ambassadors Week in which the current negotiation status towards COP21 will be presented.
Last but not least, they agreed to continue working to channel a same vision towards the Paris Agreement, through mitigation, adaptation, funding and technological support.
