It is a key step towards the expected universal agreement on climate change, expected to take place in Paris during the COP21. The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) officially published the negotiation text to reach the new climate agreement.

“I’m really glad that the negotiation text, from which the Paris Agreement will be built, has been officially published. This will allow us meeting the legal requirements before the established term”, mentioned Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC.

The document, agreed in the Geneva Conference on climate change, is prepared based on the so called Lima Call for Climate Action, text that was prepared in Lima last December, and gathers all points of view, adding more refined options to the text.

Now, the text shall be edited and translated in all UN official languages, and it will be formally communicated to the governments that are party to the Convention.

The next step for negotiations will be the meeting on June 3 to 14 in Bonn, Germany.

“The June session will be essential”, indicated Figueres. “I would like to ask all governments to authorize their negotiators to come prepared to make decisions in June, and to reach agreements that all Parties are able to accept”, she added.
